The game is an adventure game where players find themselves trapped in a mysterious basement with no memory of how they got there. The goal is to solve puzzles and escape different rooms. To unlock new areas and progress through the game You must collect and use various items scattered around the environment.

As you explore you find cryptic messages and diary entries which hint at deeper stories though the game primarily concentrates on puzzle solving. The environment is creepy with dark minimalist graphics and strange mechanical devices that create an unsettling feeling. The experience is simple yet engaging and rewards logical thinking and patience.

Though a smaller game compared to later titles in the series Submachine 1 serves as a great introduction to the Submachine universe. The immersive and mysterious vibe laid the groundwork for more complex stories and puzzles in the later games.
